RRPL’s Role

RRPL’s Role

Civics is the study of the rights and duties of citizenship, but what does that mean? Find out with RRPL as we highlight the programs, resources, and materials as we help be an engaged and informed citizen, especially during this election season.

Why does it matter?

Mission Statement:

RRPL sets a clear goal of being what our community needs.
Our mission statement reflects this:
To cultivate meaningful connections by providing information, inspiration, and a welcoming place for contemplation and community.

Engagement:

Our nation’s democracy depends on engaged and informed citizens to function. Libraries play a crucial role in fostering civic engagement by providing access to information, facilitating community discussions, and offering programs encouraging active citizenship.  RRPL takes pride in helping our community every step of the way.

What does it look like?

For a public library, being an engaged citizen can include using library materials and services to access information, participating in library-hosted events, and advocating for library services in the community. RRPL’s staff also will happily assist you in doing any of these things if you have any questions.

Where can I learn more?

RRPL is glad to answer any phone calls or in-person requests for more on Civic Engagement, but you can also click here for a general list of 10 more easy ways to stay an engaged citizen in the community or go to our Engaged Citizenship page. We also offer the ALA’s Freedom to Read Statement for more information on what supports the library’s stance on Literary Freedom.
