What is the Rocky River Public Library Foundation?
In 1968, the Rocky River Public Library Foundation was established by far-sighted individuals who understood that an outstanding library cannot be maintained through
public funds alone. The Foundation was incorporated as a nonprofit; tax exempt 501(c) (3) organization to seek support to supplement tax based funding for the exclusive benefit of the Library. Led by a Board of Directors representing the city of Rocky River’s business and community leaders, the Foundation now holds and manages close to $400,000 in donated assets. The Board supports the Library’s mission and vision through fund raising, serving as advocates for the Library, and assisting with special events. The Foundation works in conjunction with the Library’s administrator to select projects for support. The Board’s responsibilities also include: establishing a prudent investment plan; selecting qualified financial advisors; maintaining the fund’s records; and monitoring investment performance.
Why Support the Library Foundation? All financial gifts are critically important, especially during these challenging times. The Foundation augments public funds with donations to help our first-class Library preserve its tradition of excellence. Your gift can be used to purchase new materials, upgrade our equipment and facilities, fund new initiatives and projects, underwrite staff training, or for other expenditures that the Library is unable to afford through public funding alone. The Foundation focuses on raising unrestricted dollars to provide flexibility in supporting the Library in areas of traditional library service, as well as responding to emerging needs and trends. If you wish, however, you can restrict your donation to specific areas. In the past year, the Foundation has contributed significantly by: donating a much needed exterior sign, along with landscaping; enhancing our new Reading Garden; awarding scholarships to train our librarians; sponsoring rededication events after our recent renovation; distributing a history of Rocky River to hundreds of residents; and other efforts to ensure that our Library is a vibrant part of the community.
Since 1928, Rocky River Public Library has served the residents of this community by providing outstanding materials, services and programs. The Library is an educational and cultural center, as well as a gathering place for patrons of all ages. Rocky River Public Library consistently ranks among the best in the country.
The Rocky River Public Library Foundation needs your support. The Foundation recently earmarked a significant gift from the Annual Fund to broaden the Library’s Outreach Program. For 20 years, the Outreach Program has provided personalized services to Rocky River residents who are unable to visit the library due to age, illness, or physical disability. The Foundation’s gift is making it possible to serve more homebound patrons, as well as increase building loans to locations where significant numbers of senior citizens reside.
